Hello 2012 how are you! Onto business now; i recently took part in an exhibition in Leicester along with other local artists. I have recently become a member of The Attic. A non profiting art studio and collective, providing support and promotion for new artists.

Over the first three weeks of January we have taken over The Pedestrian Gallery to not only give artists the opportunity to exhibit but to also raise more awareness of local artists, help new artists, answer any queries and question and make people more aware of the work The Attic is doing.

These are certainly a guilty pleasure of mine and perfect for this cold weather. Can you think of anything better than snuggling up on a cold night in one of these babies! I thought not. So imagine the jealousy that ran through me when the email dropped in my inbox telling me that One Piece has a new shop at Boxpark, the new shopping complex close to Shoreditch station. Yes all you lucky Londoners can now shop these bad boys in person!

Opening on December 1st Boxpark is the UK's first pop-up store for One Piece.

Got this lovely dress from Toppers a couple of weeks ago. It is literally the comfiest thing ever and it's so nice to just be able to put one piece on. I love the speckle grey as well. It's so easy to dress up or down. I've wore it with everything from my body chain and ballet pumps to a faux fur collar and heeled chelsea boots. I even left a review on the website, that's how impressed i was!

An image heavy outfit post today. After seeing what Kylie from Nice and Shiny posted about blog photographs the other day i'm definately on her side with this! The main reason i use this blog is to document what i wear, so i know more than anything how i circulate my clothes, if anyone else likes what i post and wear well that's fine by me. As a Fine Art photographer i always believe my photos have to be perfect, even though these are completely different from my usual subject matter. I know i haven't got the space in my house to post perfect pictures so i don't know why i keep putting off photographing all together. I love blogs that have perfect photos but then again i don't turn my nose up at blogs that don't. Apparently i was going for a cross between Gene Vincent (ask your parents!) and a Cabaret extra which i think i'm ok with. I literally couldn't look more like a boy if i tried.

I'd like to introduce you to my amazing new coat too. I haven't bought a winter coat in about 3 years and usually suffer through the winter months in just my trusty leather jacket and a few more layers but decided i just couldn't do it again this year! It was kinda expensive for my budget but this is the only one i plan on buying for a long time. It came with a faux fur detachable collar too which is great for adding to my leather jacket or taking off the coat on warmer cold days (that makes sense right?) such as today. I've had a few compliments on it already which is just fine by me!

Yesterday was going fine until my laptop decided it didn't wanna play anymore and died on me completely. We're talking 'Recovery Disk' die, it was touch and go for a while! But here i am back from the brink.

This is what i was suppose to post yesterday. Finally decided to do an outfit post after forever. I was going for the '90's grunge look'. predictable maybe but comfy definately. Perfect for slouching around the house reading and knitting.

I need to try and do more outfit posts, i can swing from one style drastically in a day, (one day it can be victorian, the next 90's) so it will be good for myself to see where i'm at. As i've said before it can be hard to find somewhere to photograph and i'm still trying to find my tripod. No excuses though.

Until i get a chance to photograph them properly i wanted to introduce my amazing new boots. I caved and bought these Topshop Allegra Chelsea boots after i'm sure everyone else in the world already has. I need to up my girl skills by wearing heels more, or at least becoming more immune to the heel pinch, and these are perfect.

It's so hard to photograph anything i buy or wear as i have no spare wall space, or any space for that matter, in my room, no tripod and a pretty rubbish camera. All which bodes well for a blog! This will chance soon. I will make sure of it.

I am ashamed to say that recently, and for no reason at all i have gone slightly wedding crazy. I blame me and my BFF talking about them constantly (our guilty pleasure). Having literally come out of no where this did give me the chance to find the wedding trasher issue from Jalouse Magazine back in July 2009, featuring Mark Ronson and Josephine De La Baume in which they had a fake wedding (they have since gone on to marry officially but i still prefer their fake marriage!). The guests include Alice Dellal, Cory Kennedy and designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. As well as members of The Virgins and French band Neimo.

The whole concept is so rock and roll it hurts; somehow mixing punk, vintage glamour and flower headbands effortlessly with live bands and sofas outside just works. Who knew keeping your sunglasses on during the ceremony, ripped tights and leopard print could look so right at a wedding.

As i mentioned yesterday i received a package from Loulou Loves You which was my lovely flower headband. Seeing as Rose is part of my name i just had to order this when i saw it. Each headband is handmade so they're all individual. It can really jazz up a boring hairstyle or outfit and i'll definately be ordering another. I've currently got my eye on the black rose one. Lets goth it up a bit!

Last night i went to the opening of a new art collective in Leicester called The Attic. A group of graduated artists who, when unable to find anything themselves went out and made it happen.
This is just one of many ways young people are making their way in the art world today. This video shows another group who are making themselves known.
Off Modern are a creative collective based in South East London. Since forming in late 2008 they have established themselves as a significant platform for young artists and musicians in the area, curating underground art and music events in a variety of unconventional spaces.

The combination of art and music isn't something new, however is it something that has been proved successful and this is another way in which it can be brought to audiences and give people the chance to show what they can do.

I came across this on Platform website and thought it was a great idea. You see hundreds of street style photographs but video is something new. I think it gives a much better feel of what the person is wearing and the decision making behind their outfits. The close ups are lovely and the choice of people is varied. I can just imagine the person wandering with their camera and then seeing someone they want in the crowd, picking them out.

I just can't relax, not whilst the world is like this. Until i can see the ground again, but even then when i walk i can feel myself becoming more tense, telling myself to concerntrate. I chanted as i walked for the bus today. Saying "I can do this" because if i don't i know i'll fall apart like Saturday and my breath will become shorter and my heart will race. I wanna stay inside all the time, i want to look at my calender and know there is no reason for me to go outside ever. It's horrible and it dictates what shoes i wear, even where i go. There are places i avoid because i know they are bad. The entrance to Bethnal Green tube station stays in my mind because it is one of the places that makes me panic. A lot. I couldn't concerntrate on what the other person was saying because my gaze was fixed on the ground. I just want someone next to me all the time, reassuring me and holding me up. I want the person i was there with on that day, the one that put money on my oyster card and carried my tote bag. But that's something else..
Everything is pretty when it is in the air but when it lands, that's when reality gets in the way and it isn't pretty anymore.

Today i had another go at some more nail art on my nails. I'm completely into this right now and have been checking out Wah Nails nails almost religiously! I've also just ordered one of these nail art pens too so i can't wait to try out some more complicated designs.

This one is devoted to internet speak! It's silly and i have no idea how i came up with the idea but i ♥ it. I also took inspiration from the range of House Of Holland t-shirts.

These two are my particular favourites. So i based the design on them. Chill The Fuck Out! and Not A Lot Going On. I'm surprised how well the right hand turned out seeing as i had to draw it with my left hand! I also posted the picture to my twitter (here) and got a reply from the man himself! Henry Holland! Very exciting!

Back for good this time. After a couple of months of madness things are slowing down now and i need to take time to thing about the next step.

Last month myself and 8 other artists held a two week exhibition at a gallery which specialises in graduate exhibitions called DegreeArt.com in Bethnal Green, London.

All the artists who took part in the exhibition were all recent graduates of Fine Art at De Montfort University in Leicester. Though it was a group show each artist brought something different, with a mix of paintings, print, sculpture, installation and photography.

My work in the show was a continuation from my recent degree work. I wanted to find the point in which a photograph stops being just a photograph or a snapshot and starts being viewed as something more. This is a subject that i am still continuing to work with.

...a very very very bad blogger! I apologise for being away for so long but so much has happened in the past couple of months, enough to keep me away from here.

Firstly i had my degree show, which was stress beyond belief but went really well and i was very happy with my work.
I graduated! Hooray! It was such a fun day, i never wanted to take that robe off it was so comfortable (so much so that i bought a new cape the other day that looks suspiciously like it!)
I have a photography exhibition in London starting next week for two weeks. I'm really looking forward to it but i'm also kinda nervous and still have a fair amount to do.

I wanna get back into this properly so i can start doing proper posts again. I have decided to get a real mix in here, not just fashion stuff but if anyone has any suggestions i'd love to hear them!

VBS have been posting about the election all week in their Election Series, and this episode is about the Liberal Democrats. Alan Belmore is the youngest Parliamentary candidate in the history of modern Government. His party, the Liberal Democrats have shown the biggest upturn in support in the build up to the General Election. At just 19, can he make history and become the face of youth in the House of Commons.

Those good people at Palladium Shoes have recently been treating us to a bit of a history lesson about the rise of Pirate Radio. Pirate radio is everywhere in London nowadays, born in the 60’s from rusting anti-aircraft towers in the mouth of the Thames. Today’s broadcasts are hidden in plain sight, transmitting from secret tower block studios via homemade rooftop antennas. So they went exploring for us and this is what they came across.

Vice have a new VBS series called the Vice Guide to Film, made by Shane Smith and Eddy Moretti. VBS.TV are showing the six episodes, with each one coming from wildly different countries. With the film scene giving insight into the wider social and cultural backdrop of the country. Episodes include: the only ever look at Kim Jong-il’s film studios in North Korea, the Narco Cinema funded by Mexico’s drug lords, a Yukuza-sponsored Gaspar Noe film in Japan, the parallel cinema movement in Russia, filmmakers working against the odds in Palestine and a visit to Tehran to explore burgeoning Iranian Film.

If you are passionate about films then you are not going to want to miss this.

I got this amazing skirt whilst i was in Berlin. I couldn't resist. It has these amazing buckles all the way down the sides which have skulls on them. Perfect for night and a real head turner during the day! It's a very soft leather which i like, almost not like leather at all.

VBS have just posted the first epiode from the 2nd Season of Skate Europe from Italy. A description from the video:

"For the first part of the new season of Skate Europe we traveled to Italy. Besides the Milano Centrale train station and Giorgio Zattonni, there probably is not much the general skate public knows about Italian skateboarding. We first arrived in Rome and were promptly taken to their new skate park located across the street from Cinecitta Studios, just about every skater in Rome was there because who can resist a fresh concrete park. We had a chance to talk with Ale Martoriati and Alessandro Gargiulo about being a skater and sticking with it in football crazed Rome. On the way up to Milan we stopped in Savarna to meet up with Giorgio Zattonni, Italy’s first international pro, to talk a little bit about his personal history. Milan was the next destination, and we got a chance to skate with Max Bonassi, the recognized father of Italian skateboarding. Along with his long time friend, and important skater in his own right, Claudio Bernardini they run Bastard Clothing. The building that Bastard is housed in is old movie theatre outfitted with one of the most beautiful wooden bowls that hangs over the whole office. These might not be the most well know people in global skateboard history, but they certainly are some of the most die hard."

Even if you're not a hardcore fan of skateboarding, this is definately worth a look.

VBN Listen In: Berlin

Vice/VBS recently made a video about Cold War-era underground bunkers in Berlin and Peter Sutherland (New York artist) photo-documented it all as part of its Uneven Terrain project with Palladium Boots.

This piece is the 5th in the series and is called Listen In: Berlin.
(taken from the Berlin Explorer's Guide) Scouting the empty hilltop listening station, going down into Berlin’s underground bunkers; we’re investigating the abandoned spaces that the Cold War left behind. We’re meeting old soldiers who are telling us stories of a city filled with thousands of spies and governmental agencies. We’re exploring underneath the mysterious white domes at Teufelsberg that used to listen across the Wall, going across the city to Tempelhof Airport to chase down rumors of other supposed spy stations. and heading down into the mythical bunkers of Berlin to see what’s left. We’re putting our boots on and climbing through the city’s spy labyrinths, into the buildings that housed the hidden world of military espionage.
I had to write about this as it is less than a month til i go to Berlin myself and i am more than excited! This video was my first chance to get a peak at what the city might be like. The locations that they visit are amazing, and as you can see from the photos above would make great locations for a fashion shoot. I love when places like these are uncovered and it makes me wanna have some adventures myself!

Been curling my hair everyday recently, i'm sure i'll go off it eventually but at the moment i completely love it like this! All in black today, this seems to be becoming a regular thing and i like it. People keep asking 'When are you going to wear colour?' and i actually don't have an desire to. It's not that i go out of my way to avoid it i just never see anything i like enough. Black goes with everything basically.

This bag, you can just see, is my new favourite thing, i got from London at the weekend. It's just big enough and has lots of pockets and space and really cute little silver hearts on the front. I'm in love!

Today is a black day for fashion, i was so shocked to hear about Alexander McQueen, it doesn't seem real. This is dedicated to him. A true genius and talented beyond belief.

Swansea Love Story

As part of the Rule Britannia season VBS have treated us again with 'Swansea Love Story'.

Co-directed and produced by Andy Capper and Leo Leigh, Swansea Love Story is about the largely unreported heroin epidemic in South Wales. The film is an intimate look at the lives of a gang of young addicts, their families and their surroundings. The film examines how unemployment, the breakdown of the family and the nature of love contribute to the dilemmas faced by a group of young people.

The film follows Amy & Cornelius, Lee and Leanne, Clint, Kristian and Wills around their daily lives as they struggle to get money to buy drugs, alcohol and for places to live. During the course of the film, characters get clean and relapse. They fall in and out of love. We meet their families and drugs workers. We meet their dealers. We meet members of Swansea's mining and docker community who tell us how the city has changed. In place of industry there’s myriad bars, strip joints and cheap booze outlets. Racial tension often spills over into public protest and violence.

Whilst some people may say we have seen documentaries like this a million times before i believe you can never have too many of them. Anything that lets people know the real things that some people in this world have to go through can only be a good thing, right? People need educating more, especially on subjects like this and i for one have learnt something just from watching the trailer!

VBS.TV, the broadcast arm of Vice Magazine, will release a new film Swansea Love Story (part of the Rule Britannia series) in 6 episodes from the 12th February on www.vbs.tv.

I'm completely in love with my new headband, i couldn't wait to put it on today! I got an early birthday present yesterday in the shape of this amazing bag from AlWear. I love the chain detail around the edge and the option to wear the strap longer or shorter. I could easily see this look going from day to night by adding heels and changing the jacket, easy.

I got all creative today after watching yet more Style Like U. This video of Sophie Conti particularly caught my eye.

I loved this headband straight away.
Which reminded me of a similar headband worn by Vanna Youngstein on the same site.

I found an old headband which the bow had broke off years ago and bought some little roses to attach. Though i couldn't get flowers big enough like the ones in the photos above i think the small ones work well too.
I'm so pleased with the way this turned out, i imagined it would look best with something kinda tough looking like my leather jacket. I love DIY, it worked out so much cheaper than if i had bought it, gonna make loads of them now!

The Dolche & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2010 collection is a-mazing! These were my absolute favourites, i could definately wear these. The lace is amazing and i think i might have just found a new favourite dress length.

I got this sweet little dress today. But what i had to do to get it!

My good friend Ian told me about this vintage shop in Northampton called Trashy Flowers, a big old factory crammed to the rafters with vintage stuff! Sounds like heaven to me. Me and my friend finally arranged an adventure to the place today after Ian kept telling me how my arms are gonna hurt with all the bags i have to carry and that he came back with 8!

After getting very lost (we ended up at the train station after having the map upside down duhh) we got there only to be greeted with a sign saying the retail location had moved! We EVENTUALLY found it and..it was a let down to be honest. It wasn't cheap as he had said (i knew the prices had gone up but still) and wasn't even that big. The man working there was a bit creepy and proceeded to tell me i 'looked nice' in the dress i tried on!

I got this lovely little dress though. I love it so much and it fits so well, (which is rare for me when it comes to vintage) its a lovely thick lace so i know it couldn't have been cheap and has lots of layers underneath to give it that nice shape. It was an adventure but i don't think i'll return. Now i long for my usual haunts of Cow and Vintage Warehouse in Nottingham. Take me there please!

When Vice sent me this interview of Noam Chomsky i definately wanted to share it. You may or may not know Noam Chomsky is a big deal in spheres of political activism and linguistics and philosophy, and one of the eight most frequently-cited authors of all time.
I remember at college being taught about his work during Film and Media classes, though i can't remember what i was told i remember my reaction being one of interest.

I definately urge you to watch this video. He talks about some very interesting topics and i find his voice rather calming! Take some time out of your busy day, sit back and let your intellectual side take hold for a while.

This is my absolute favourite dress right now. It's so lovely and floaty and deffinately not appropriate for winter! I can wear it day or night and it never looks out of place. It has these amazing studs across the front and down the sleeves.
I saw this video of Shea Daspin on Style Like U and wanted the dress at the beginning of the video so much!

I never thought i'd actually get the dress, i had no idea where it was from. But i stumbled across the exact dress on ebay! Kate Moss for Topshop Fall 2009. It was a steal at only £14!

By British taxidermst Reid Peppard, she takes animals commonly perceived as pests and turns them into fashion items. Peppard says,

“…when they become sculptural headpieces, necklaces and cuff-links, the specimens cease to be waste and become objects to behold. RP/ENCORE makes use of the city’s leftovers.”

I love the photoshoot in the snow, it screams London to me and i think it works so well.
As much as i like to look at them, i can't help but perceive them as art rather than fashion. Not in a Damien Hirst kinda way......but something that has more to it. I can understand what she says and the reason behind it. Though i wouldn't be comfortable wearing them, i could definately stand in a gallery and look at them without any hesitation.

I feel like a walking advert for Topshop today ha! Not that i'm complaining it's definately one of my favourite shops ever and i often find when i leave in the morning i'm wearing at least 2 items from there. I got these amazing boots from there yesterday in the sale for less than £20. They are so amazing, i was watching some exactly the same on ebay which went for a lot more. Originally they were more of a dusky grey colour but i took some black shoe polish to them. They have an amazing wooden heel and the straps make me feel like a cowboy!

I know i have been neglecting this site for a while, final year university work starts to leave time for little else but now that i am the newest member of VBN (Vice Blogging Network) i'll be paying a lot more attention to you guys! It will be good to get a bit more of a mix of things on the page rather than just clothes.

Firstly Vice have an hour long documentary coming out on the 19th of January. THE VICE GUIDE TO LIBERIA. One side of this story which interested me was to learn that Liberia doesn't have enough buying power to dicate what comes into the country clothes wise. There are some new items however the majority is second-hand (or vintage if it were being sold to us).

Donations from the USA are most common, as well as wholesalers who buy vast amounts of used, unwanted clothes from America. Trends are made by what is avaliable, not the other way around. No trace of irony can be found. In fact, what the t-shirt actually says is generally ignored by the buyer in favour of size, colour, shirt quality, and personal perception of the design. The result is an electic mix of amazing t-shirts.

These are just a few of my favourites.I know plenty of people, including myself, who would pay a pretty penny for some of those t-shirts!
